JoliSoleil

General information on wine tastings
For a wine tasting JoliSoleil offers several possibilities
together with France-wine-tour.com.
As we live near the Alsace
wine region it seems logical to taste especially
Alsace
wines.
Part of our
Alsace wine selection can be
found here.
We always start by discussing wine tasting in general. How to
do that? We will give you some hints and teach you some do’s and don’t’s. We
will then continue with some information on the
Alsace region.
Tasting
As the tasting starts you will be handed out a special
tasting note paper. So you can write down your findings and discuss them.
-
Champagne: The first
wine we drink is a Crémant – a champagne-like wine, which originates from the
Alsace.
-
White wines: Then we
continue with some white wines, for example: 2 different Rieslings, a Pinot Gris
and a Pinot Blanc. We will discuss our findings.
-
Red wines: Next it is
nice to taste some Pinot Noirs. With or without oak. Or for example 2 from the
Alsace and 1 Pinot Noir from the Burgundy region. We will be tasting the same
grapes so the only difference is the winemaking, the region and the soil. This
is of course very interesting to compare.
All and all we will taste some 6 to 8 wines. This will take
some 1- 1 ½ hours.
We always serve some French bread to go with that.
Of course we can always discuss different wines, or for
example add some wines avec ‘prestige’, like from the house of Hugel or Zind
Humbrecht.
Dining
Food and wine belong together. The right choice of wine can
really add to the tastes and flavours of what you are eating and vice versa. And
although we do not encourage you to really swallow all the wines, you will still
feel better if you also eat something during and especially after the
wine-tasting.
Therefore we can also bring you some local ‘Alsatian’ food,
like: Coq au Riesling, Choucroute garnie, Tarte flambee, Kugelkopf or Baeckofe.
We can heat it up in the oven while we are tasting the wines
and serve it during or immediately after the tastings. We can discuss and then
add the wines that go well with your selection of food.
